Security Officer Core Subjects (01E)

01eAccording to the Code of Virginia § 9.1-138, an “‘unarmed security officer/courier means a natural person who performs the functions of observation, detection, reporting, or notification of appropriate authorities or designated agents regarding persons or property on the premises he is contracted to protect, and who does not carry or have access to a firearm in the performance of his duties.”

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be a minimum of 18 years of age.
  • Successful completion of all initial training requirements for each registration category, including firearms endorsement if applicable, requested pursuant to the compulsory minimum training standards in Part V (6 VAC 20-171-350 et seq.) of this chapter.
  • Be a United States citizen or legal resident alien of the United States.

Please note, if you are a former law enforcement officer or investigator and applying for a training course waiver, DCJS requires at least 30 days to process your waiver request. Prior to attending and participating in any partial training courses, you must present FFM with your DCJS waiver letter prior to or on the first day of the training; otherwise, FFM is not authorized to certify any partial training session. You may attend the entire course and full certification will be provided upon meeting the course completion requirements.
